4-2-3-1 formation next season with current squad?
|
Assuming Bilic goes with his favoured 4231 formation next season the side at the moment could look quite interesting.
Players not listed below will hopefully be moved on and I'm making assumptions on signing Song and Jenkinson.
Adrian Cresswell Jenkinson (fingers crossed) Tomkins Reid
Obiang Kayoute
Noble Payet Downing
Carroll
Subs Randolph Collins Poyet Song (hopefully) Amalfitano Jarvis Sakho Valencia
A front three of Downing, Payet and a fit Carroll could be incredible.
Will Bilic go 4231 and if so what players do we still need apart from cover at CB full back?...

Bottom line is that Mark Noble is second on our team in tackles/games and 6th in fouls/game. There might be others to look at first .
He tries to do much at times but he does not hide, which I respect.

Not if it's the Song of the second half of the season no. But I take your point, as even in the game at Old Trafford Song made some ridiculous tackles early on.

I mostly agree with that.
That being said I think he looked pretty decent dawdling-wise when he had runners and Song doing his job at points last season. Keep strengthen the midfield around him and he will do fine.

So you can remember (poorly) 3 silly free kicks in two seasons.
You really don't want us to sign Song again then do you?

Haven't read the whole debate, but don't think Noble gives away proportionally more fouls...if he does in dangerous areas its becuasr that's where he's making the tackles.
His biggest liability for me is he dawdles on the ball, takes too many touches and slows our play down a lot of the time.
Sometimes he gets caught in possession as a result, sometimes it nullifies what we're doing as a result, but he's a decent Premier League midfielder. He's not top class as borne out by the fact no big side has ever made any kind of concerted effort to take him off our hands.
Will he be first choice this year...unlikely the way the side is shaping, but I'd expect he'll get plenty of pitch time.

I've never mentioned that goals were scored from the free kicks, only Baines one.

Still if I give you 3 over 2 season and 69 games, then that's not high for a central midfielder by any means

Roe, believe me, in my time lurking on here I've realised that some people have agendas, and I most definitely do not take any notice of posters like Fordstar or Nicey. I don't dislike Noble at all, I think he can be a decent player but he does give away silly free kicks that are unnecessary.

It wasn't from a free kick. It was a pretty decent move from their own half - was my point.

If it was against Hull then it didn't lead to a goal....

Canada, I didn't mean Sigurdson scored the free kick, just that he took it, but Roe has already said Noble didn't play, so it obviously wasn't that game.

See here's what happens, a few idiots like Fordstar say Noble gives away loads of freekicks around the area, he gives away a pretty bad one like against Everton 2 seasons ago that leads to a goal and all of sudden people jump on the band wagon he gives away freekicks in dangerous areas loads.
That's all I ever see on here, Noble, Noble, Noble when in fact he gave nothing bad away last season on the scale of say Song against Tottenham.

We won 3-1 and their goal was Boney from open play.

Probably the more likely formation yes but remember unless Valencia and Sakho start alongside each other you have to moan about how shit the manager is.

Everton the season before last from which Baines scored from, Southampton last season I believe and I think it was either Swansea or it could have been Hull, although thinking about it I think it was Swansea as Sigurdsson took the free kick.
